WHO WE ARE
Swimming in Color (SIC) is the school- and community-partnership arm of Black People Will Swim (BPWS), designed to make swim education accessible and turnkey for schools and non-profit organizations—particularly in communities historically underserved in aquatics. Swimming In Color is at the intersection of sports, marketing, and culture.

THE NEED

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under 5.

3 in 4 Latinx people have never taken a swimming lesson.
-
American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) people have the highest drowning rates, with people under 30 having a rate 2.7 times higher than White people.

Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED, and WSI
certification, along with financial literacy.

HOW IT WORKS
Partners can decide if they want a one-day, 3-hour swim clinic or a 6- or 8-week swim program.

Schedule Options: During school, after school, weekends, or summer

Staffing: Certified American Red Cross instructors with appropriate participant-to-staff ratios. All staff members undergo a background check.

Location: On-site pools or partner facilities

Reporting: Attendance, participation, and completion metrics provided by BPWS staff
